Most of you will have heard back from your representatives reports of what happened at the European in Dublin. It's ten days already since it ended and even longer since the AGM, so it's about time I wrote to you all now that I am President. (Also writing today gives you the chance to send back birthday greetings in time for Friday.) Part of my election promise was to send letters and information to you at frequent intervals. Zoran and Oleg stay on exec as Vice-Presidents and Matti is again Secretary. We however welcome a new name in Hans Kostka who takes over from Thomas Pfaff as Treasurer. He will be handling our main money accounts as soon as we can get the signatures changed. Hans has a professional financial background and is from Munich. It will take us a long time to prepare full minutes of the meeting (all 5.5 hours of it) but in the mean time Matti has put together a summary at http://www.kttl.helsinki.fi/msiivola/go/egf/agm2001minutes.html This is intended just to give you something to keep you interested and has no legal status, of course. This year I have committed to look at some of the issues the EGF has been avoiding recently and push the commissions forward. I am sure there is much gain to be had from working together and sharing ideas and information between the countries. Already I have had long talks with/emails from two countries and I am grateful to those for taking an early interest.
The European Tournament calendar is at http://www.kttl.helsinki.fi/msiivola/go/egf/ Please check and supply missing or corrected data. Also, if you do
not have someone who already does this, please check your country's
European Rating List entries for spelling and other errors (eg dead
players). And don't forget to get Zoran's message about the Pair Go players to your selected pair if you are one of the nine countries lucky enough to take part this November.
I am currently waiting to find out more about the new Toyota Densu Cup as this has been indicated as having a regional qualifier for each continent/ region (see Nihon Kiin web site). Also I have an invitation
from SINGAPORE to send two teams of three players to their International
Weiqi Championships from September 7th to 10th 2001. Competitors should
be reasonably strong (or fairly strong juniors) and must cover their
own travel expenses to Singapore. Best Go Greetings
