Subject: Chinese Weiqi League Muk Jan-Sok 6D the first ever foreign player has officially signed with

Chongqing Construction Motorcycles. Although the financial terms are not disclosed, the club manager has said that Muk's salary is in the range of the other star players on the team, Liu Jing 8D and Zhou Heyang 8D, which means, according to some calculation it's about 10,000 yuans(~1,200 US$) per week, plus bonus on a per win basis.
For example, Liu Jing and Zhou Heyang reportedly earned about  200,000 yuans from the Weiqi League matches last season and for winning the league championship. It's surprise to know that Muk can speak pretty good Mandarin and Cantonese. He said he learned it by watching Hong Kong TV's and movies and by playing on Qing-Feng Weiqi server.
Muk's addition will help fill in a void left by Yu Bin 9D, one of last year's pivotal contributors for Chongqing's championship drive. Yu Bin will re-join his hometown team of Zhejiang, which is re-forming for the B-League next season. Zhejiang was a traditional powerhouse rivaling the formidable Shanghai team in the annual national team championships, before the formation of this Weiqi league. But due to internal turmoil and subsequent withdrawal of corporate financial backing, Zhejiang team was dissolved before the start of the inaugural Weiqi Leauge seaon. Andwe're glad to see it come back and let's hope it will make it back into the A-League in no time. It's unknown whether the great legendary Ma Xiaochun 9D, currently the coach of China Telecom club in A-League, will join force with Yu Bin to bring back the old glory days to Zhejiang.
With the hastily drafting of the "Guidelines for Overseas Players", note it's "overseas" not "foreign", more non-CWQA players are expected to sign on with clubs for next season. Most notably is Rui Naiwei 9D, Kim Sing-Jun 7D another Korean player who's processing the paperworks to join the leauge as we speak, and Zhou Junxun the top China-trained player from Taiwan.

Rui will sign with Shanghai Mobile Communications. Her salary will be in the same range with Chang Hao 9D and Shao Weigang 9D.

Zhou Junxun and Kim will join with Yang Shiyang 8D, another export  from the glory old days of Zhejiang era, to form the Hong Kong club to play in the B-League next season. So looks like the B-League will have at least 2 teams, Zhejiang and Hong Kong, that are powerful enough to even play in the A-League.

Subject: Exciting Chinese Weiqi B-League to start in April

Because of the format of Chinese Weiqi B-League is all teams gather in one place for 2 weeks to play 7-8 games, it is suitable for some world-class players with busy year-round schedules, so they actually preferred the B-League over the A-League, and they will earn good money for relatively quick (albeit intensive) work. For example ING cup champion Seo Fong-Joo 9d of Korean reportedly will earn 300,000 yuans for 2 weeks work. His club, Shenzhen, this year got a big corporate sponsor Hyatt.

Getting into A-League means a lot of free publicity and exposure for the corporate sponsors because during the season CCTV will have a weekly show about the league's matches. CCTV reaches 1 billion audience.

Most exciting of all is Zhejiang will finally put together a "dream team" this year to try to qualify promotion to A-League. The great legendary Ma Xiaochun 9d pitched in 500,000 yuans at the last minute to help the team's operating budget. Now Zhejiang team will feature Ma Xiaochun 9d and Yu Bin 9d the only 2 ever world champions of China.

4 teams in the B-League this year look very strong to fight for the 2 promotion places:

Zhejiang: Ma Xiaochun 9d, Yu Bin 9d, Chen Linxin 9d, Zhu Songli 5d

Beijing (a second club, not the same club that's already in the A-League): Liu Xiaoguang 9d, Zhang Xuan 8d, Wang Qun 8d, Fang Jie 7d

Hong Kong New Worlds: Yang Shihai 8d (resides in HK now, currently the third best Zhejiang-origin player, too bad he's not re-joining his home team, or it will truely be "dream team"), Yang Hui 8d, Zhou Junxun 9d (currently the top player from Chinese Taiwan), Kim Sing-June 7d (Korean top-20)

Shenzhen Hyatt Ginseng: Liang Weitang 9d (formerly the top player of A-League's Guangzhou 999 club), Fang Tianfeng 8d, Seo Fong-Joo 9d (former ING cup champion, top-10 in Korea), Kim Wing-Sam 5d (Korean top-30)

Subject: Prodigy update

Liao Xingwen, the prodigy who visited MSO last year, has justed turned seven. He continues to improve but slowing down. He is now playing his teacher, Wang Hongju 7-dan, on three stones, but finding it very difficult.
His go mother, Liu Yajie 2-dan, says it is because he is too young to handle the abstract concepts.

There are several interesting things to discuss about all that most of all: what higher abstract concepts - didn't know there > were any! But it would also be good to hear from anyone knowledgeable about child education to know what sort of abstract blocks a (very bright) seven-year-old faces and when he might expect to overcome them.

To put Xingwen's achievements in some sort of perspective, there are many other Chinese prodigies. One is Peng Quan, who at 15 has just made the quarter finals of the Mingren (see the MSO site), so Xingwen needs to improve about 4 stones in 8 years to match that.
